Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club
The Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club is a social organization open to all current male members of Temple Beth Shalom. Programs deal with specific needs and interests of the Temple and of the members.
The Men’s Club offers the opportunity for its membership to coordinate and sponsor Jewish events in conjunction with other Temple events and services and as a club. Men today are faced with many questions. Conflicting notions of career, fatherhood, responsibility and marriage have eroded centuries-old concepts of male identity and self-worth. More and more of us are searching for a new sense of balance in our lives, searching for something that speaks to us as Jews, as adults, and as men.
Mission
The Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club mission is to engage in projects and activities that provide meaningful services to the congregation; to sponsor and promote vitally important community-building projects; and to give other members the opportunity to explore and celebrate their Jewish spirit. Our hope is that the TBSMC members become actively involved in youth education, adult education, social action, and fellowship activities which will contribute to the enrichment of Temple Beth Shalom and the local Jewish community.
History
In its first year of existence (2000), we met our goal of the Temple Beth Shalom Men’s Club (TBSMC) to clearly identify the desire and interest in the type of functions and activities that would involve a Temple Men’s Club. TBSMC does not intend to take the place of any current Temple committees or infringe on any current activities. The goal is to serve as a vehicle to bring additional, current, and future members into our Temple. We have the support and commitment of TBS, and TBSMC will maintain itself as an independent Temple Men’s Club without any national affiliation at this time.
Future
The TBSMC is multi-functional. There is a diverse amount of programming, from social programs and Temple service projects to community events and fundraising. The club has its own dues and membership and maintains its own expenses based upon individual costs of programs, contributions, or events. The costs of programs and the TBSMC treasury will not be funded in any way by the Temple. Our hope is to be able to have a scholarship created to sponsor members of our youth in summer educational programs, and other scholarships as determined by our membership.
Membership
TBSMC supports its activities by charging annual membership dues, and may have a variety of fundraisers to help support various programs, projects, defray costs of publications, mailings and other charitable work the TBSMC deems appropriate. Membership runs September thru September with dues of $36.00 per member.
