Some Points To Note...

  • Come in to the TBS Gift Shop. Hours are Wednesday 11:00-2:00 and Sundays 10:15-12:45, and also by appointment; the registry is by appointment only. Friends and family welcome.

  • The Adult Education Committee is seeking congregants who are interested in planning programs for our adult learners. The Committee meets once per quarter and will conduct its business via email or other forms of electronic communication. If you have an interest in promoting Jewish Adult Education at our congregation please call David Stein at 614-231-0315 or send an email to davidsstein@sbcglobal.net.

  • Are you a scrapbooker? Can you spare some time to help capture and preserve Temple memories forever? We are in need of volunteers to help archive Temple photos, news stories and other keepsakes. Please contact the Temple office if interested.

  • We are still accepting pledges for the Annual Appeal. Our needs are many, and your gifts are appreciated!

Wanted - Chicken Soup Chefs!

Do you make a "mean" chicken soup - Noodles, Matzah Ball or any type of Chicken Soup? Why not compete in the 1st Columbus Chicken Soup "Souper Bowl" Cook-off on January 28? The Beth Tikvah Brotherhood is now signing up contestants to challenge for the right to be selected as the best Chicken Soup Chef (Amateur & Restaurant Divisions) in Central Ohio. Proceeds of this event will go to the Beth Tikvah Summer Camp Scholarship Fund. For more information on how to enter or to obtain an entry form, please contact either Jeff Wasserstrom (760-0026) or Ed Schecter (221-4544).

TBS Scrip Program

Since spring, dozens of TBS members have purchased tens of thousands of dollars of TBS scrip which in turn has generated thousands of dollars for our congregation's programs. At no additional cost, your family can make your holiday gift recipients joyous and TBS a more vibrant community organization by purchasing TBS scrip. You can use scrip to pay for your gift purchases or give scrip as gift certificates to family members, friends, and business associates. If we don't have scrip for a particular business, then you wouldn't want to buy from them anyway! Scrip is available from all kinds of stores, groceries, restaurants, hotels, airlines, cruise ship lines, etc. Simply view our vast catalogue on the retailer page of www.glscrip.com and call your order or questions in to David Neubauer at 253-7654 or dneubauer50@wowway.com or the temple office. Orders can usually be delivered with one week.

TBS Men's Club Membership

It's that time of year to renew your membership in Beth Shalom's Men's Club. Your membership dues of $36.00 allow us to subsidize the many important events we support within and outside Beth Shalom. Please send your check to the Temple made payable to Beth Shalom Men's Club. If you have not previously been a member please join us now. We promise you fellowship, camaraderie, and increased sense of community in our spiritual home. Please mail your check for $36.00 to Beth Shalom.

More Office Volunteers Still Needed!

As they say, due to "circumstances beyond our control" I am in need of additional volunteers to help out in the Temple office on the following dates:

  • Sunday, January 21
  • Sunday, February 11
  • Sunday, March 18
  • Sunday, April 22

The hours will be based on when your child is in class, so that can be either 9-11 OR 10:30 - 12:30. You can pick one, two, three, or even all four dates if you'd like! Duties include greeting people who may enter the office, answering phones, possibly making photocopies, and other light clerical work. Please e-mail me at ricker@wideopenwest.com or call 614.523.4360 and let me know which dates and time-frame you can volunteer. Thank you so much for your help!

Shabbat Alive! Reform Community Shabbat at Temple Beth Shalom (Fri. Jan. 12, Sat. Jan. 13)

Inspired by the Shabbat Unplugged musical worship enjoyed by congregations throughout the country, Friday evening will feature singing, instrumental music and prayer; local musicians and multimedia will make Shabbat come alive. Following that, on Saturday, January 13, 2007 from 10 am to noon, Rabbi Yedwab will lead us in Joga, a Jewish take on yoga that mixes movement with spiritual enlightenment. Wear comfortable clothes. You do not need a yoga mat or any other equipment.

Rabbi Yedwab is the spiritual leader of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, the congregation he has served since his 1986 ordination from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He is a graduate of Princeton University with a degree in politics. He has published five books: The Alef-Bet of Blessing; Learn Hebrew Today; To See God Through Jewish Eyes; Shema Yisrael, Hear O Israel: The Temple Israel Siddur; Sex in the Texts; and The God Book.

Recycle Your Printer Cartridges and Cell Phones

The religious school is again collecting used Printer Cartridges and Cell Phones for recycling. We can accept any brand of ink-jet or laser printer cartridges. Last year the proceeds were used to help fund the High School trip to New York. The Religious School committee has not ear-marked this years funds yet, but the proceeds will be used for student activities. Bring them in and deposit them in the drop box outside the temple office.
