Upcoming Events!

BREAD Meeting (Mon. Nov. 24)

Your TBS BREAD team house meetings has resulted in three problem areas that your greater BREAD Organization wishes to narrow to one on Monday, November 24 at Faith Ministries, 2747 Agler Road (Agler and Sunbury Rds) at 7:00 pm.  Rabbi Apothaker will deliver the opening charge.

The issues to be considered are:

  • Neighborhood Blight: vacant/boarded up homes/strip mall stores, foreclosures; crime; trash and overgrown lots, illegal dumping
  • Cultural/Behavioral Barriers to education, employment and full participation in society: racial profiling, language barriers, safe haven for youth, mentoring (esp. in single parent families, transition from incarceration, financial illiteracy
  • Schools: poor K-12 education, kids not ready to start K; too much time on preparation for testing, parents not involved, high rates of truancy, privatization of school, vouchers, unequal school funding

Please be part of the process of Tikkun-Olam-World-Mending that will choose one of these three problem areas for research and action by our Nehemiah Action Meeting on May 4, 2009.

Don't Forget...

  • Do Two Mitzvahs In One. As you are cleaning out for the next school year, remember you can use the recycling bin at the back of the TBS parking lot and help us earn some extra money for Temple projects. Save it up, and bring it here. We'll be happy to turn your trash into treasure.

  • The TBS Gift Shop will have a pre-Hanukkah sale of all in-stock merchandise. Everything will be 20% off during the month of November. Please call 855-4882 and let us know when you'd like to shop. --Tammie and Arlene

Temple Beth Shalom Scrip Program

Scrip is a term that means "substitute money". When you purchase scrip, you're purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials—and with every purchase, you earn revenue for the Temple. Purchasing scrip is an easy fundraiser in which to participate. You contribute to the Temple by making regular household purchases you would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip. Check with TBS Scrip Coordinator David Neubauer (253-7654) for the latest participating retailer list, or visit www.glscrip.com. Then put your shopping dollars to work for the Temple!

Now Available: "Cafe Beit Shalom"

We are proud to make available "Cafe Beit Shalom" in the Temple mezzanine area, open anytime during Temple hours. There's fresh Seattle's Best coffee available, free WiFi internet access, and several newspapers and magazines (including the Sunday New York Times). The environment is geared towards parents whose children are in Talmud Torah Sunday School, but all are welcome anytime the Temple is open.
