Youth Groups

Our Youth Groups are composed of young people from fifth through twelfth grades who desire to learn more about their Jewish identity and religion as well as to enjoy a full complement of social, cultural, educational and religious activities. Some of these include creating and writing services for the High Holidays, social action programs, study and fundraising. Meetings are held monthly and programs take place regularly.

BeSTY

Our senior youth group, Beth Shalom Temple Youth Group (BeSTY), is open to entering ninth-through-twelfth graders. The group focuses on social, educational and social action activities and attends regional and sub-regional kallot-conclaves sponsored by affiliates of its parent group, the North American Federation of Temple Youth.

Visit the BeSTY Web Site for more information.

Junior Youth Group

The TBS Junior Youth Group, for students in grades 7-8, meets twice a month during the school year, for social and social action programs and projects.

The group also leads two synagogue services each year, in addition to participating in youth group High Holy Day services.

Junior Youth Group social events have included such activities as scavenger hunts, laser tag and overnight lock-ins. This year, the TBS youth group will join groups from Temple Israel and Beth Tikvah, for several city-wide Reform Junior Youth Group events.

Among the group's annual service projects are creating Hanukkah baskets for New Americans (in cooperation with Jewish Family Services) assisting with the temple's Purim carnival, and organizing the temple's Shelach Manot for Jewish Military Personnel project.

The group travels out of town each year to a UAHC-sponsored mini-conclave for Reform junior youth groups. In even-numbered years, the group travels to Washington, D.C, for a tour of Jewish sites in the nation's capitol.

Group membership is open to any Jewish student in the community or any student interested in learning more about Judaism. Dues are $20 per year.

5/6 Youth Group

Temple Beth Shalom offers a youth group for students in grades 5-6. This group meets once a month, from October to May, generally on Sunday afternoons, for social events designed to foster a sense of Jewish community. This year, the group will take on its first social action project, beginning in November.

Group membership is open to any Jewish student in the community. Dues are $15 per year.
